What should the HTML fragment look like?

The HTML fragment for the EbonyWeb Ring looks like this (replace your name/address/id where you see mine):

<!-- EbonyWeb Ring HTML -->
<center>
<table border=0 bgcolor="#b48100" cellspacing=0 cellpadding=5>
<tr>
<td align=middle>
<img src="ebweb.gif" height=100 width=300 alt="EbonyWeb Ring Logo"><br>
</td><td align=middle>
<font face=arial>

What if my page has frames?

As of August 15, 1998, the HTML fragment has been altered to accommodate pages with frames. However, if your page has frames and you are using a fragment copied before that date, please copy the fragment above (changing the name/address/id) and replace the old fragment.

Where can I find the logo?

This is the EbonyWeb Ring Logo:

EbonyWeb Ring Logo

You can download it from here using the mouse's right click button (or whatever your browser/computer calls for) or from any other places where the logo displays. If you can not download it, let me know, and I'll send it to you via an e-mail attachment.

Once you have loaded the logo, make sure that the browser knows where to find it in your directory. If you filed it in a subdirectory called "images," you need to add images/:

<img src="images/ebweb.gif" height=100 width=300 alt="EbonyWeb Ring Logo">

If you want to change the size of the logo, try a proportional change in the height and width, keeping the ratio 1:3 (height=50 width=150, etc.) Please do not make any changes in the logo itself without my prior knowledge.

How should the fragment display?

This is what it looks like:

[Previous 5] [Skip Previous] [Previous] [Next] [Skip Next] [Next 5] [Random] [List Sites]

The links are set so that the browser determines the point where a break will occur. The background is a dark gold, and the links are the color of those on the rest of your page.

Can I edit the fragment?

If you want more control of what a browser will do with the fragment, you will need to do some editing.

In the example below, I simply added a <br> tag at the point where I wanted to the browser to break. Results:

[Previous 5] [Skip Previous]
[Previous] [Next] [Skip Next]
[Next 5] [Random] [List Sites]

Also, Webring, EbonyWeb's host, renders the fragment in a bunched format that I can't affect. It would not be a bad idea to make sure the formating hasn't caused problems. For example, in an earlier version, the format changed the close anchor tag after the Previous link, which meant the Next link would not work.

While a gold background is perfect for this web page, and I did not want a border for my table, you might want to make some changes to fit your page's look. Below, I have changed the bgcolor and added a border:

[Previous 5] [Skip Previous]
[Previous] [Next] [Skip Next]
[Next 5] [Random] [ List Sites]

Lastly, because space might be an issue, I reduced the height and width of the logo, used a smaller font, made several changes to the table structure and bgcolor, and eliminated two extraneous links:

[ Previous 5 | Previous | Next | Next 5 | Random | List Sites ]

A black bgcolor really looks great if you are using a white or equally readable text color for your page.

WARNING! Please check the links after you are done to make sure they go where they are supposed to go. I can not add your page to the ring if they do not.
